Goodbye as a Game of Transition
Sekhem Goodbye Meditation: Feeling and Transition. Teaching by Patrick Zeigler.
The goodbye meditation, also called the transition meditation, is approached as a game. Play the game fully. A video game offers a useful comparison: although you know it is a game, parts of the mind believe for moments that it is real. In a driving game, the body can react as though you are actually driving a car. Within this teaching, that bodily response is described in terms of endorphins flowing through the body.
The meditation works in a similar way. It introduces saying goodbye to certain people and gradually builds toward transition. Its premise is that you do not really die; you transition, and others transition too. In this way, the exercise reinforces the idea that there is no death.
After a person's imagined transition, there is a part of the exercise that helps with channeling. Remain in the present moment as you channel the person. There may be a moment when words begin to come and you wonder where they came from.
The sequence then builds toward your own transition. You say goodbye to the world and to your loved ones, make the imagined transition, and return to source. Entering the game fully may make it easier to enter a samadhi state.
