Sekhem: Letting Feelings Move Toward Love
Explore Patrick Zeigler's Sekhem teaching on recognizing feelings, how the body conducts energy, and love beneath attraction and expectation. You're warmly invited to read.
This teaching explores how difficult feelings may become recognizable through somatic work and begin to move through the body. It considers changing sensations in the stomach and hips, the way the body conducts energy, and how attraction and desire relate to embodied experience.
When Release Touches Life Choices
Question: What arose through the work was connected with a painful and abusive situation involving a man who had been trusted as a friend. At the time, there were no words for what had happened, only the recognition that it had been deeply traumatizing. There was also a painful realization about how women may be treated differently depending on whether they are married. It became frightening to be around men.
The participant continued working, because the man had been connected with her service. As the situation unfolded, she questioned her work in much the same way another participant had been questioning hers. She decided to change everything so there would be more time with her child and more space to care for herself.
The change was not easy. Earning less and creating new ways to earn a good income while having more quality time with her child was still a struggle. It was a process, and she was still finding her way. She had also been working with the energy of what had happened and felt that the session was important because it touched parts of herself that needed support.
The pressure around these choices had become physical. During a stressful period of work at night, she broke a tooth from clenching. There had been no other problem with the tooth; it was the pressure and stress. During the process, she felt much of that energy gather in the area, and she had been in pain in the mornings for several days before needing dental treatment.
After the process, she felt a great deal coming out. Her body felt lighter and more at peace with the choices she was making. Changing everything was difficult, especially with responsibility for a child, but she also felt that she had no regrets. She was still building her new life, yet knew she was doing what was right for herself and her child. She felt grateful to have been able to do the work with support.
The teaching carried by this sharing is that a major life change may remain difficult while still feeling inwardly right. The process does not require everything to be perfect before a person can recognize that something important has shifted.
