Sekhem: Desire, Surrender, and Knowing God

The Inner Sound and the Desire for God, Patrick Zeigler’s Sekhem Teaching

A participant described hearing a buzzing or tiny burst of sound during meditation. It felt like an inner sound in the ear, and once it appeared, other sounds seemed to disappear. The sound was now available whenever meditation became deep enough.

At first, sound is heard through the ear in the material world: animals, birds and other sounds. In the astral world, the second body hears in a similar way, and many kinds of sound and music may become available. When the voice of the third and fourth bodies is heard, it does not come through the physical ear. It comes through the mind, through an inner gate.

Do not try to listen to that sound with the physical ear. Bring the mind to the inner gate. If the sound of a bird is present, choose one very small sound within it. Then choose a smaller sound, and a smaller one again. When concentration becomes complete, the inner sound can manifest.

This manifestation depends on thirst, concentration and desire. When the wish to hear becomes complete, when everything else is forgotten and listening is the only desire, the sound may appear. It is not practice alone that produces it. Practice gives the wish a chance to manifest. The deeper cause is the extreme wish for God.

Concentration helps, but the essential force is the wish. Everyone carries this desire, although it may remain hidden beneath a curtain. The work is to bring it out. Questions about God, the soul and the difference between them can increase curiosity. As consciousness approaches a higher stage, a higher desire can open.

The manifestation of the soul's voice does not depend on practice alone. It depends on surrender, trust, desire and the grace of God. Practice creates an opportunity, but surrender allows the deeper wish to become visible.
