This teaching explores preparation, grace, the inner guide and the many approaches that can lead toward enlightenment. It follows the movement through the four bodies and their voices, from mantra and effort toward the unmodified sound, soul awareness and direct knowledge of truth.
Preparation, Grace and the Inner Guide
Kalabhava said, “I will not be your guru. I will only guide you. Swami Tilak will be your guru.” In response, place the photograph of Swami Tilak before you and pray for Kalabhava to come and meet you. The meditation then begins as a sustained period of prayer and preparation.
The preparation may continue for years. During that time, serve in the ashram, make paintings, study and remain devoted to the path. The first guru gives the initial direction. Kalabhava gives further guidance, including the awakening of Kundalini and the chakras. The essential instruction is to prepare yourself. When your extreme desire manifests, you will succeed.
After enlightenment, there may be no living guru available to answer every question. The experience may already be present, while there is no language with which to express it. Study the books of saints and question them inwardly, but understand that some questions arise from a stage that other saints cannot explain. One saint gave this guidance: no other saint may be able to guide you because your status is very high. Your inner God will explain.
When no answer comes from any saint, this does not necessarily mean that the path has failed. It may mean that the answer has already been reached inwardly. Confidence can arise from recognizing this, and from beginning to write what has been realized. The teaching comes from direct experience and from the inner explanation that follows it.
